WCAS field trip to Avon Lake Power Plant

Sunday, January 23, 2011

Trip leader: Tim Krynak

On this bright icy arctic day, the warm water from the power plant brought hundreds of ducks and geese in toward the shore. Birds and birders were not alone. Two fishermen stood in the water in waders in spite of near-zero temperatures A young Bald Eagle sent dozens of ducks and geese off the water into the sky.  Shortly after they settled, a Peregrine Falcon took down a Common Goldeneye. The Peregrine enjoyed its catch on the ice.
