Field Trip with Black River Audubon Society,
at Lorain Harbor and Avon
Lake Power Plant

Leaders: Tammy Martin and Liz McQuaid 25 Birders
The star of the show on this field trip was a beautiful male Common
Goldeneye at Miller Park by the Avon Lake Power Plant.
Near open water a sheet of transparent ice covered a little
school of minnows. The
Goldeneye dove and disappeared underwater only to glide along under
the clear ice before popping back out to the surface. Winter
favorites did not disappoint at Lorain Impoundment.
Along the dike were Common Redpolls, Lapland Longspurs and
Snow Buntings. Bald
Eagles sat on ice in Lake Erie at both locations, a great reward for
birders who braved the ice, snow and wind of a bright winter
morning. Thanks to Rich
Kassouf and Liz McQuaid for eBirding their observations.
