Monthly Morning with the Birds at Rocky River Nature Center
Report | Photos |
Birding in shady woods is the best way to spend a steamy summer morning! WCAS joined the Rocky River Nature Center’s Monthly Morning with the Birds led by Dave Grasskemper. A ruby-throated hummingbird showed off his iridescent feathers at the top of a dead tree. Wood thrushes called, catbirds mewed and chattered. Young wood ducks sunned themselves on a log next to a turtle. Leaving the Nature Center, several of us took the opportunity to observe five cliff swallow nests on the Mastick Road Bridge and a dozen on the bridge south of the Marina over the Rocky River. Cliff swallows were seldom seen in the Cleveland area until this year, but Mary Anne Romito has counted more than two dozen nests on the concrete bridges in the Rocky River Reservation. 19 Birders 43 Bird Species Wood Duck
