Wellington and Oberlin Reservoirs Field Trip
Sunday, November 17, 2013
Leader: Erik Bruder
12 Birders, 30 Species
(includes 1 barnyard goose)
Despite early-morning rain, 11 birders enjoyed a mild, calm morning
at Wellington Reservoir. Threatening clouds gave way to blue skies.
Predominant species were Canada Goose, American Coot and Ruddy Duck.
Initially about 70 Canada Geese were present, but over the next two
hours, the number swelled to about 760. Gull numbers as well started
out low and added up with time.
Temperatures in the 60's prompted a chorus of Spring Peepers
and ladybugs lighted on us.
From Wellington, the group moved to the Oberlin Reservoir.
Three Bonaparte's Gulls were among the Ring-billed and
Herring Gulls, and one Common Loon.
Clouds rolled back in and scopes shuddered in the heavy wind
at Oberlin. The wave action made birds hard to identify.
Thanks to Terri Martincic for sending our lists to eBird.
