Christmas Bird Count
Western Cuyahoga Audubon Society's
Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is part of a three-week, nationwide effort to
monitor trends in bird populations. The official name of our CBC is the
Lakewood Christmas Bird Count. We cover a fifteen-mile diameter circle
centered at West 214th St & Center Ridge Road in Fairview Park.
If you are new and would like to
participate, wonderful! Nancy can place you in your own area or have
you join a group already going out. If you participated in the past
please let Nancy know what people you will have in your group and area(s)
you normally
hit.
Below are a couple of areas WCAS wants to cover more thoroughly so if you
want to change areas or you know of someone that might be interested in
walking or driving some areas, let Nancy know. If you wish to
participate in the count, contact Nancy Howell at (216) 231-4600 ext 3225
(work), (440) 891-1710 (home) or
e-mail
nhowell@cmnh.org.
You may also monitor you own feeders at home if your home is within the
count circle (see above). Contact Nancy Howell if you have questions about
the count circle.
We are
looking for extra help this year to cover areas which are not always covered
and to cover areas where we are short-handed. Please contact Nancy Howell at
(216) 231-4600 ext 3225 (work), (440)
891-1710 (home) or
e-mail
nhowell@cmnh.org
to help out.
At 5:30 PM, CBC participants (and spouses/friends) are encouraged to attend
the THANK YOU dinner being held at the Rocky River Nature Center. Not only
will we have dinner (salad, pasta, bread, dessert and beverages), but we
will also begin to tally the species sighted. This is a great time to
socialize, have dinner, and find out what species are around, not to mention
have a great time.
Make sure you bring your list of species with numbers of birds sighted,
names of people in your group, their addresses, etc. for the compiler to
collect. If you would like to bring something to share at dinner (extra
holiday cookies or treats) that would be great too.
