Wendy Park at Whiskey Island 30 members and guests and 45 bird species
The morning of October 14, 2007 transformed into a beautiful Fall day, starting off chilly and ending up warm, sunny, and pleasurable. A Great Blue Heron on the shore of Lake Erie entertained us as it swallowed a rather large fish and then stood still for a long period of time digesting it, fully cooperating for the cameras! A very photogenic Winter Wren sat quietly for a long time in the open on a low branch, letting the remaining attendees have probably the best look that they will ever have of a Winter Wren. Hermit Thrush, Golden and Ruby-crowned Kinglets were plentiful, along with White-throated and White-crowned Sparrows. It was a pleasant surprise to see signs posted up on a hillside of dead vegetation along the river that said “Coming Soon – 2-1/2 acres of Prairie Grass & Wildflowers.”
